Jack Creek Loop Trail

Around two miles south past Moonshine Meadows, is where Jack Creek runs into the Jarbidge River. Just past the creek, turn left and follow up the old 4x4 section of the Jarbidge Road that got replaced by a better route when heavy road building equipment was invented. Stay left and park. If you continue driving on this road, you may find yourself in a dusty close up with the river below. Walk down the road where you will find a footbridge. Before you get brave and cross it, take the right trail to Jack’s Falls, a short distance. When and if you cross the cowboy foot bridge, continue up the trail. It is very likely overgrown but it navigates you through a wild moss covered old growth riparian forest. Over rocks and up logs for around a mile where the trail turns somewhat vertical. Follow the trail up the steep slope over the ridge. To be honest, this is as far as ive been. This is the old Jack creek road and used to continue up to connect with the island road. I wish you luck.
Or, come on back down. But instead of crossing the danger bridge, continue past and up the old freight road that used to be the route they would bring wagons down.

An old town historian shared a story to point out the interesting consensus agreement freighters and locals shared. Because of the narrow road, when a wagon going up met a wagon going down, the upward traveler would be the lucky applicant that gets to unload and disassemble his wagon, piling it all to the side of the trail out of the way of the smiling downward freight wagon. Once it passed, the wagon was reassembled and reloaded to continue back up the trail.

Continue up the narrow trail built by two brothers that shared one set of false teeth. It brings some amazing views. Continue up until the trail switches direction here you can either cut off to the north. This is where the Whiskey Trail meets the Freight Road. Follow it down the ridge and through the switchbacks to Moonshine Meadows. Or, continue up where the trail disappears in the sagebrush. If you wander up through, you will hit a two track road. Now, take a right, it will connect on Jack’s Camp Ridge with the Island Road. Taking a left here is a very long walk to Murphy Hot Springs roughly 4 miles. If you take a right the Island road, you will end up in Jarbidge, roughly 3 miles.
